The historic Georgetown façade will be painted an unassuming scheme of neutral colors. Once you step into the vestibule you know immediately that this is not your average 19th century Washington tavern. The theme is undeniably Asian, but it’s not quite clear exactly what country or region you’re experiencing. Brightly colored fabrics adorn pillows thrown on oversized banquettes and sofas. Lamps and artifacts from all over the Far East will be prevalent and abundant. Flowing veils of fabric create privacy and give the space a soft sumptuous feel. We wanted to recreate the atmosphere reminiscent of a busy street bazaar; we built structures to house seating groups and made small intimate areas in what would otherwise be a large open space. The DJ is actually a part of the back bar and looms over the patrons at the bar. The second floor is somewhat of a departure from the first floor. The same Asian theme is carried out but it’s a more elegant traditional dining experience, with it’s own bar and an authentic India swing.
Winner of dozens of awards, we, along with the Georgetown crowd, are very pleased with this work. |
