Jackie's Restaurant

The challenge was to convert a circa 1920's brick building, which formally housed a NAPA Autoparts warehouse, into the hippest London meets Manhattan eatery downtown Silver Spring, MD could stand. The transformation was completed via the use of revitalization, imagination and lot of build-it-on-the-fly creativity.

We worked with the designer to order and sew the multitudes of different 60's era fabrics into tuck-n-roll seat backs and hung over 2,000 strings of stainless steel beads over the see through kitchen to conceal mechanical equipment. All new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were installed through a basement that was converted to storage use upon completion. The existing brick structure was sand blasted, cleaned and sealed to maintain the texture of the building while replacing most of the steel casement windows with colored glass. Three inch thick Brazilian wood was imported to make the massive front doors that open into the bar covered in a glowing polymer material that changes shade with your angle of vision. Nearly every element of this suite was built on site from the wheels welded to the custom booth separations to the tabletops.
